Previously known as, “The Annual Board Review in Geriatrics and Palliative Care,” The SAGE Symposium is an innovative 3-day inter-professional continuing education conference for primary care physicians, nurses, and social workers focused on improving healthcare for older adults.
How SAGE is Different: Most continuing education conferences require attendees to passively sit in their seats 8 hours a day while experts click through PowerPoint slides. SAGE, however is focused on active provider participation and skill building.
Skills Sessions: The first two days of the conference focus on active skill building in geriatrics and palliative care for front-line providers. It is designed to allow providers to take advantage of close one‐on‐one mentoring and networking opportunities. Example sessions include: assistive devices for hearing loss in the elderly, fall assessment and prevention, completing advanced directives, and redefining hope.
Senior Health Fair: The last day of the SAGE Symposium starts with our first Senior Community Health Fair. Providers will staff several healthcare booths bringing the skills they have learned, in days 1 and 2, to our community seniors and their families, along with community non-profits, businesses and organizations. The health fair will end with a bang, when our keynote speaker, Mayor Emeritus, Lila Cockrell, addresses our providers and senior health fair attendees.
Longitudinal Involvement: The conference aims to create long-term educational relationships by incorporating longitudinal CE activities for providers (ex. Geriatrics Grand Rounds). This creates another opportunity for you to participate in SAGE’s efforts while connecting with local educators and providers on a more long-term basis.
How you can get involved: SAGE gives our exhibitors the opportunity reach out to front-line providers of primary care to older adults in the San Antonio area, as well as, to the older adults themselves at the health fair. Participating exhibitors can reach three audiences:
1. Local experts and educators in geriatrics and palliative care
2. Front-line physicians, nurses, and social workers with interests in geriatrics and palliative care
3. Locally active senior community members who attend the health fair
